• Invitation/General introduction
In 2004, the first Brazilian Workshop of Plant Diseases Epidemiology was held in Viçosa/MG, under the coordination of Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV). In 2007, the second edition was organized by Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz (ESALQ/USP) in Campos do Jordão/SP. The third edition was held in Bento Gonçalves/RS and was hosted by Embrapa Uva e Vinho. This time, Curitiba/PR was chosen for hosting the IV Brazilian Workshop of Plant Diseases from December 2nd-4th by Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) organization.
These three days of intensive work aim to assemble researchers, professors and professionals in the field of Plant Disease Epidemiology from Brazil up to other countries for discussing new methods and technologies in health of agricultural crops, new strategies for integrated management of plant diseases, as well as the pursuit of shared solutions for the control and prevention of epidemics.
This fourth edition has the support of several state and federal institutions across Brazil. The scientific programme covers aspects from classical epidemiology of integrated disease management including statistical methodologies for understanding epidemics and defining management strategies. Both invited speakers and participants (professors, graduate students and professionals) who work directly with plant disease epidemiology, will have this event as an opportunity to share their knowledge in order to present problems and propose solutions of important pathosystems for Brazilian agribusiness.
